Polysorbate 20 is a nonionic surfactant and emulsifier derived from sorbitol which comes from fruit and berries. polysorbate 20 is a water-soluble yellowish liquid used as a dispersing agent -mixes oil and water, fragrance solubilizer and stabilizer, lubricates and has a soothing effect on the skin. polysorbate 20 does not disrupt the properties of the essential oils by creating ionic bonds which are formed when two or more atoms give up electrons.
Ionic bonds are stronger and do not separate in solution, but they do disrupt the properties of the essential oils. hence polysorbate 20 preffered over any other emusifier. it is used in cosmetics, sprays, lotions, pharmaceutical & food industry etc.
